PFN hints on moves to strategize to halt killing of Christians in Nigeria

The National President of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Dr. Felix Omobude, has cautioned against killing of Christians in some parts of Nigeria and said that the church will not watch and allow such to continue.

The cleric went further to say that there is no known law in Nigeria that forbids one to defend himself when attacked.

Lamenting the killing of Southern Kaduna Christians by Muslim Fulani herdsmen, he said responses to the attacks has not been effective and called on the security agencies to be alive to their duties so as not to give room to communities picking up arms to defend themselves against attacks.

He however enjoined Christians to maintain restraints in the face of aggression, stressing, that the “nation will be in chaos if we all don’t exercise restraint.’’

PFN president made this statement during a press conference to address national issues and announce the biennial conference of the body slated to take place between February 17 and 19.

According to the PFN boss, “There is no law in our faith or even in the constitution that forbids you from defending yourself if you have the capability. We can’t watch and allow this to continue. We have seen communities that form civilian joint task force to defend themselves.

“We have called on authorities in this country to defend citizens whether they are Muslims or Christians. Government must, at all levels, stand impartial so that they are not seen as defending one religion against another.

“Our faith does not necessarily allow us to do things that way. This nation will be in chaos if we all don’t exercise restraint. If we do that, we also expose our people to insecurity. Let no one count Christians as weak; nobody has monopoly of violence. We have only restrained our people. Those who use religion to fan the embers of disunity should know that it is an ill-wind that will blow no one good. The security agencies need to do their job.” He said.

Despite security presence in Southern Kaduna, where reports claimed over 800 Christians have been killed by Muslim Fulani Herdsmen, more reports of attacks and killings have continued to emanate from the communities.

The killing of Southern Kaduna Christians by Muslim Fulani herdsmen is too outrageous, I’m not surprised a man of God is saying all these.

The government is infact supporting the killings, if not they would have devised means of stopping the herdsmen from killing Christians. What they are doing is more than killings, they are also calling on religious crisis.

Self defense is not punishable but we have to be swifter than that. We must not wait for enemy to strike before we defend ourselves but we have to take the shield of faith to quench the fiery darts of the devils who the fulani are representing now.
We have to sober and vigilant at all times.
