Few weeks after reception their scorecard, Gov Ikpeazu sacks cabinet

Abia State governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has dissolved his cabinet just a few weeks after his commissioners between May 28 and 29, presented their scorecard at a forum in the state attended by the governor.

The dissolution of Abia State executive council was made public on Friday night in a statement signed by the state’s Permanent Secretary, Government House, Onyii Wamah.

The governor however did not dismiss his Chief of Staff, Sunny Nwakodo, the state’s Commissioner for Finance, Obinna Oriaku and the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of the State, Chief Umeh Kalu (SAN).

The statement failed to disclose why the governor sacked his commissioners, special advisers as well as senior special assistants and the SSG.

Meanwhile, Governor Ikpeazu has appointed three new special advisers who are the state’s former Commissioner for Works, Eziuche Ubani, appointed as the Special Adviser on Works and Project Monitoring; Emma Nwabuko, as Special Adviser/Personal Secretary to the governor; and Solomon Ogunji, Special Adviser on Urban Renewal, respectively.

The decision by the governor has been viewed by some political analysts as a move to re-strategise, mend fences and position himself ahead 2019 general elections.

A similar event also recently took place in Imo and Ebonyi states. In Imo Governor Rochas Okorocha sacked the entire 27 local government chairman and all his cabinet members except for his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, who is his Chief of Staff; in Ebonyi, Governor Umahi sacked all the 27 local government chairman and reshuffled his cabinet.
