Welcome! Lai Mohammed reacts to Akpabio's defection

The Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has reacted to the news of the defection of Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, saying he is welcome.

Mohammed, who spoke to reporters in Lagos on Sunday, said: “I welcome it because all politics is local. All those who have left us did that for purely personal reasons.

“Since they say politics is a game of number, of course we welcome gladly the defection of the Minority leader like they say it is one-one goalless draw.

The minister also downplayed the recent defections from the APC, saying it is nothing to worry about.

“There have been so much hype about this defection, and to me it’s nothing but a storm in a tea cup. We must appreciate the fact that at the end of the day, all politics is local.

“One should ask, what is the electoral value of these decampees? In order words, today in Sokoto State, what’s the electoral value of those who have decamped?

Akpabio’s defection, though not formal yet, may have become a foregone conclusion, as the APC Newspaper reported on its Twitter handle that the Senator is a confirmed APC card carrying member as at 4th of August.

Ripples Nigeria also reported that the former Akwa Ibom governor visited President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday in London. He was recently also pictured with the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos.
