An Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure has sentenced a welder, Seun Ayeni, to life in prison for raping a minor who happened to be his neighbour’s niece at Oke-Aro area of Akure, the Ondo state capital.

It was learnt that the convict, who was arrested by men of the Ondo State Police Command allegedly lured the victim into his room where he forcefully had carnal knowledge of the thirteen-year-old girl in 2017.

The trial judge, Justice Samuel Bola, ruled that the testimonies of the prosecution witnesses as well as the examination conducted by a medical doctor confirmed that the welder is guilty of the offence.

However, the convict who denied raping the girl during the trial said the victim’s aunt wanted to incriminate him as a result of a disagreement between them.

But the court stated that the prosecution had proved its case against the convict beyond reasonable doubt and thereby found him guilty of the offence.
