The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has boasted it will this coming Saturday conduct supplementary elections that Nigerians will be proud of.

It also said that the elections will meet the expectations of all the critical stakeholders in the electoral process, and that the commission expects an improved synergy between various security agencies meant for the polls.

INEC’s Commissioner for Information and Voter Education, Festus Okoye, made this known when he appeared on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Monday.

He called on political parties to ensure their members come out en-masse and ensure they act in accordance with laid down rules and procedures for the conduct of elections.

Okoye said, “We are ready for this particular election, and we expect that things will go well.

“We also expect high-level cooperation from the different security agencies that will be involved in election security so that at the end of the day, people will know that a good election has been conducted.

“We want to conduct a supplementary election that Nigerian people will be proud of; we want to also conduct a supplementary election that meets the expectations of all the critical stakeholders in the electoral process.

“What we demand is that the political parties should rain in their members and also make sure that they act in accordance with lay down rules and procedures for the conduct of elections.”

He warned that the commission will not allow any form of electoral malpractice to go unpunished.

Some of the states INEC will be conducting governorship supplementary elections include Plateau, Adamawa, Sokoto and Kano.
