We'll dialogue with US under right conditions, North Korea says

Defiant North Korea led by headstrong leader Kim Jong Un has told the US that it will only dialogue and come to a possible compromise over its continued missile activities if the conditions were right.

Pyongyang made the comments through a senior North Korean diplomat who handles relations with the United States on Saturday according to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency.

Choe Son Hui, North Korea’s foreign ministry director general for U.S. affairs, made the comment to reporters in Beijing as she was travelling home from Norway, Yonhap said.

“We’ll have dialogue if the conditions are there,” she told reporters when asked if the North was preparing to hold talks with the Trump administration, according to Yonhap.

When asked if North Korea was also preparing to talk with the new government in South Korea, of liberal President Moon Jae-in, Choe said: “We’ll see.”

The comments by North Korea is coming a day after it demanded the immediate extradition of whoever was involved in the CIA-backed assassination plot of President Kim.

Pyongyang through its vice foreign minister, Han Song-ryol, alleged that the CIA and South Korea’s intelligence agency bribed and coerced a North Korean man into joining in the assassination plot which he claimed was thwarted.

North Korea’s UN Mission late on Thursday issued a statement calling the purported plot to kill Kim a “declaration of war”.

It said the aim was to hurt “the mental mainstay that all the Korean people absolutely trust” and “eclipse the eternal sun” of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), the country’s official name.
