Iwobi wrecks Plateau Utd, to get new Arsenal deal

Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger insists the club will respect Alex Iwobi’s decision to represent Nigeria at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Brazil.

“We have to respect his choice.

“He had the choice between England and Nigeria and in the end he chose Nigeria”, the French manager told Arsenal’s official website.

“We respect that, and also the possibility that he will go to the Olympic Games, that he will also go to the Africa Cup of Nations and travel a bit more than he would have done here.

“We have to respect that”, the 66-year-old added.

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal are in contract talks with Alex Iwobi.

The Gunners boss is desperate to keep the exciting 19-year-old winger at the club, who has burst onto the scene this season and kept Theo Walcott out of the side.

And Wenger revealed that talks have already been opened.

“We are discussing it at the moment, yes, to extend him,’ Wenger said.

“I think he is a real Arsenal person. He has been here since the age of eight.

“He has, anyway, three years left at the end of the season but we want, of course, to keep him here for longer.

“And overall, there are lots of positives in the last few months about how quickly he emerged as being a player with a good impact’.
