Wenger to leave Arsenal after 22yrs

Super Eagles forward, Alex Iwobi will be expecting a new coach from next season as Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger is set to leave the club after about 22 years of service.
The Frenchman’s current contract is due to expire in 2019, but his decision to leave at the end of this season was announced on Friday.

There has been pressure from fans as the Gunners are currently sixth in the league and set to miss out on a top-four spot for the second straight season in the Premier League.

And their only hope of making the Champions League next season is emerging winners of the Europa League.

In his career at the Emirates Stadium, 68-year-old Wenger won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups, including the Double in 1998 and 2002.

“I am grateful for having had the privilege to serve the club for so many memorable years,” said Wenger.

“I managed the club with full commitment and integrity.

“To all the Arsenal lovers, take care of the values of the club.”

But following the announcement, Arsenal majority shareholder Stan Kroenke described the decision as “one of the most difficult days we have ever had in all our years in sport.”

He added: “One of the main reasons we got involved with Arsenal was because of what Arsene has brought to the club on and off the pitch.

“His longevity and consistency over such a sustained period at the highest level of the game will never be matched.”

Arsenal are however in the semifinals of the Europa League, where they will face Spanish side, Atletico Madrid, in a bid to reach the final.
