What govt plans to achieve with N-Power —Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has assured Nigerians that the N-Power Graduate Skills Acquisition Programme would not be stopped but rather be expanded and made better to benefit more Nigerian youths.

Osinbajo disclosed this while addressing beneficiaries of the programme on Friday during his visit to Kiara De-Luke Multi-Skill and Entrepreneurship Centre, an N-Power training centre at Umuobiakwa in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia.

The Vice President said the N-Power programme was very important to the Federal Government because of its focus on empowering the youths through capacity building.

“The programme will be expanded, enriched, made bigger and better and we will improve the welfare of those in the programme.

“You can be sure that we are going to see this programme through. We are going to continue the programme. We are not going to stop it.

“It is the largest of its kind anywhere in Africa. We want to prove that it is possible not only to keep young people employed and engaged but to train at the same time on a continuous basis and to train them using technology,” he said.

Also speaking, Abia state Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu said that the Vice President’s visit to the centre was to see the youth who had decided to acquire skills to liberate themselves from poverty.

“The only way we can encourage entrepreneurship is to look inwards and patronise made-in-Nigeria goods,’’ he said.

Ikpeazu, however, decried the power supply challenge at the centre and solicited for Federal Government’s assistance to ensure smooth running of the training.

Meanwhile, the Vice President, who was earlier at the inauguration of one of the training facilities located at the Anambra Motor Manufacturing Company complex, Emene, Enugu state, said the Federal Government has approved the training of 20,000 youths in various vocations across the country,

He said the training would run for nine months and the beneficiaries would receive N30,000 monthly stipend for the period of engagement.

According to him, the project was an integral part of the N-Power project that had absorbed thousands of youths across the country.

“This programme is aimed at creating thousands of technical jobs for the youths as well as improve their entrepreneurship skills.

“It is a sub-section of the N-Power programme aimed at training 75, 000 youths in relevant industries where their training skills will be needed,’’ he said.

Osinbajo, who reiterated Federal Government’s commitment to creating more jobs, called on Nigerians to support the current administration it achieve its promises.

Earlier, Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, commended the Federal Government for locating the centre in the state and for the support it had enjoyed over the years.

He noted that his administration had provided the conducive environment for businesses to thrive and would continue to support initiatives aimed at improving the economy.
