Why DSS is after Fayose

After rumour of death, DSS parades detained Ekiti lawmaker

The Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose may have inadvertently invited operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, to drop their telescope on him.

The recent onslaughts by the DSS against officials of the state government have been attributed to Governor Fayose’s vocal and constant criticism against President Muhammadu Buhari.

The DSS had detained the state Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Toyin Ojo, on Monday, after he heeded an invitation by the Service.

According to reports, aside from Ojo, two other commissioners, the Attorney General and commissioner for Justice, Owoseni Ajayi as well as his Local Government Affairs counterpart, Kolapo Kolade, were also invited, while a member of the state Judicial Service Commission, Obafemi Adewale, was equally invited.

However, there are insinuations that the main target of the hyper activities of the DSS was Governor Fayose.
The Finance Commissioner, according to sources, was grilled by the DSS over the handling of the state’s ecological fund and the source of the Fayose’s campaign funds.

The action of the DSS, according to Governor Fayose’s Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka, in a telephone conversation with Ripples Nigeria, is curious, asking “what is the business of DSS in ecological funds or campaign funds”.

Speaking further, Olayinka said the reason the DSS is after officials of the state is nothing but political vendetta.
“What is happening is nothing but political vendetta, intimidation and witch-hunting because of the known stance of Governor Fayose against the administration of President Buhari.

“It is however unfortunate that this is a democracy and none of their plans will work.”

On Fayose’s constant attack on President Buhari’s administration, Olayinka said it is all part of democracy, especially for somebody in the opposition.

“You will recall how APC chieftains kept attacking former President Goodluck Jonathan, calling him unprintable names and deriding every move of his. President Jonathan did not because of that go after anybody or asked that they be killed. So why is President Buhari trying to go after those who are critical about his administration”, he asked.

Olayinka further stated, the onslaught against the state officials would not stop Governor Fayose, adding that intimidation and witch-hunting have never stopped any opposition in the world.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to enfant-terrible, Fayose. Time to even the Presidency even harder. We need a very viable and virile opposition.
