27-yr-old man who killed woman he met on Facebook reveals reason for his action

A 42-year-old man identified as Mr Daniel Egwe, who confessed that he went into crime after he was duped of the sum of N4million by some top Nigeria Customs officers has been arrested by cops.

Egwe, an aspiring Chairman of Celenca Community landlords association, located along Badagry expressway, Lagos State, was arrested by men of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Intelligence Response Team (IRT) for stealing and snatching cars..

In a confessional statement, Egwe said; “Yes, I went into crime after some Customs officers swindled me of N4m. I borrowed most of the money they stole and I needed to repay my creditors. I also joined crime because I had been dreaming and yearning to become chairman of the landlord association in our community.

Egwe revealed that it was not easy to become the chairman of the landlords association in his community. “It entails a lot of hard work and money”. He said: “You have to lobby other landlords to vote for you.”

According to a police source, Egwe was apprehended after months of painstaking investigations; “We traced him to the community where he resides. Members of the community, who insisted he couldn’t be the suspected criminal we were looking for, attempted to stop us from arresting him. The community members insisted that the wanted suspect could never be their own Daniel Egwe.”

Reports say Egwe had been presenting himself to the community members as a responsible businessman and had repeatedly fought for and achieved progress for the community.

The police source added: “According to the community members, the suspect had contributed immensely to reduction of crime in the community. He single-handedly hired security guards to keep watch in the community. But we had to do our job and effect his arrest”.
