Vice President (VP) Yemi Osinbajo abandoned his chopper at an event on Thursday and had to return to the Presidential Villa by road.

His spokesman, Laolu Akande, who explained what happened said that the VP had to abandon the chopper at the graduation ceremony of Nigeria Customs Senior Course in Gwagwalada, Abuja based on technical issues.

He said on his Twitter handle, “VP Osinbajo attended the graduation ceremony of Nigeria Customs Senior Course in Gwagwalada today.

“On his way back, it was decided, for technical reasons, not to fly the chopper that had brought him to the venue. He drove back to the Presidential Villa & continued his schedule.”

Osinbajo had earlier been conveyed by the helicopter to the event before it suddenly developed a sudden fault and could not fly the VP back to the Presidential Villa.

According to reports the chopper was said to have on taking off after Osinbajo disembarked, unable to ascend beyond tree level.
It thereafter emitted thick smoke, and landed on the same spot seconds after take off
