Wife of man killed by police in Charlotte releases video footage of shooting

A dramatic video footage of the fatal shooting of an African American, Keith Lamont Scott, in Charlotte, North Carolina, has been released.

The video, recorded by the victim’s wife, Rekiya scott, was released to the New York Times and NBC by her lawyers.

Scott’s killing has led to days of unrest in Charlotte, adding the list of growing anger over mounting police brutality on unarmed African Americans.

Though the police claimed Scott was armed with a short gun and posed a threat to officers, police authorities have failed to make public its own body cam video footage.

Rekiya was said to have captured the moments before and immediately after the fatal shooting.

The latest development may however compel Charlotte authorities to make public their own video footage.

The two-minute, 16-second video recorded with a smartphone captured the voice of the victim’s wife pleading with the police not to open fire.
