Police, DSS threaten to shoot Gov Wike for blocking arrest of judge

The governor of Rivers State, Mr. Nyesome Wike, has assured that his administration will partner with security agencies to ensure there is peace in the state.

The governor stated this while speaking on the peace meeting brokered by the police and the Department of State Services, DSS, between him and the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, pledging to implement the resolutions of the peace meeting.

The state has been embroiled in violence over the last few months with many lives and properties lost in clashes between groups fighting for political supremacy in the state.

Due to the violence, the INEC has been unable to conclude elections into some positions in the state, with the bye elections being postponed, again and again.

It would be recalled that the Inspector General of Polive, IGP, Ibrahim Idris and the Director General of the DSS, Lawal Daura, had a meeting with Wike and Amaechi, on how to promote peace in the state during the re-run elections and after.

Speaking in Degema Local Government Area of the state, on Wednesday during a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, senatorial campaign , Governor Wike said he participated actively in the peace parley because of his desire for enduring peace in the state.

He said: “I was at the peace meeting because we love peace and want the state to move forward. I signed an undertaking on your behalf that we are prepared for INEC’s credible, free and fair elections.

“It is not in our interest to have a crisis because we will be the losers.”
