Wike says no regret supporting Tambuwal, declares position on Atiku

Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has said he has no regrets supporting Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal to emerge as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate.

He however said all that was now bygone and assured of his total support to the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to ensure his victory in 2019.

Wike had wanted Tambuwal as the PDP presidential candidate and had campaigned for his emergence. Atiku however emerged victorious at the primaries which help recently in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

But speaking on Sunday during the thanksgiving service for the successful hosting of the 2018 PDP National Convention in Rivers State, Wike said, “I supported the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal fully. I have no regrets for my support for Tambuwal.

“But the party has made a choice and as a loyal party man, I stand by the choice of the party. I will support His Excellency Atiku Abubakar to victory in 2019. That is what is called party loyalty.”

Taking a swipe at the All Progressives Congress (APC), the governor dubbed the ruling party a hopeless party that had failed Nigeria.

He therefore called on Nigerians saying, “We must put our heads together to ensure that this bad government is sacked . We must ensure that this bad government goes in 2019.

“If this same government returns in 2019, then Nigerians are digging their graves. The suffering now will be a child’s play. That is why we must work for the good of our people.”

Wike went further to boast that the PDP would win in Rivers State not minding “the evil machinations of the APC Federal Government.”

On Rivers governorship election, Wike said that he was going to complete his mission in Rivers State through a clear victory in 2019.

He added that the reason he wanted the PDP national convention hosted in Rivers was because of the state’s economy and the reality that the state has remained the home of the PDP since 1999.
