With the dollar cloud still hovering over him, Ganduje leads Islamic group to Buhari

As the backlash from the bribery scandal continues to hover over Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, he led an Islamic group to a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari Friday.

Ganduje was caught in secret audio-visual recordings receiving bundles of American dollars believed to be bribe from contractors.

He continues to deny the allegation, blaming the videos on cloning. The Kano assembly has since set up a panel to investigate the matter.

Ganduje led the Tijjaniyya Shura Council to the president at the presidential villa, Abuja, on Friday.

At the gathering, President Buhari said his administration will continue to work towards strengthening the unity of the country.

He said the government would work harder to improve on the gains recorded in securing the country from the “onslaughts of terrorists and criminals”.

Buhari commended religious bodies and Nigerians for the encouragement shown to the administration through prayers.

He said a peaceful and prosperous country is realisable with collective vision and shared efforts.

“I am grateful for the prayers and words of encouragement. Nigeria’s unity must be sustained. It is instructive to note that Nigeria preceded all of us in age, and we must do our best to keep the country together,’’ he said.

Earlier, Ibrahim Maihula, leader of Tijjaniyya, said, “Our desire is to live in a country that is peaceful and economically vibrant, and we will keep praying for you and members of your administration.’’

Maihula said peace and economic prosperity were not negotiable for the unity of the country.

He urged the president to remain focused and steadfast in pursuing the policies he had outlined.
