Witness tenders guns, bags of money allegedly recovered from Justice Ademola

The 11th witness testifying against Justice Adeniyi Ademola, on Wednesday brought before the Federal High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Matiama, Abuja bags of local and foreign currencies, guns and other exhibit allegedly recovered from the house of the embattled judge.

The items according to the witness were recovered from the house of the Federal High Court judge, Justice Ademola, on October 7, 2016, when the Department of State Security (DSS) raided his house in the wee hours of the night.

Mr. Umar Ahmed, DSS Exhibit Keeper, who appeared in court as the 11th prosecution witness tendered the items.

Umar, who was led in evidence by the lead prosecuting counsel, Mr. Segun Jegede, carefully identified the various items brought into the courtroom by the DSS operatives.

The total money brought in three separate bags, according to Umar amounted to N54million; $171,779; €4,400; £80 and R1, 010 (Indian Rupee).

Other Items he presented before the court were two Avar Magnum Pump Action gun, bearing the names of Justice Ademola and another judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja, Justice Ahmed Mohammed.

He also presented the original copies and photocopies of the licenses for the guns bearing justices Ademola and Mohammed’s names, with two cartridges, a red head of 25 pieces and a white head of 10 pieces.

Other items Umar tabled before the court as part of the items recovered from the judge’s house included two iPads and an 8GB flash drive.

He said four mobile phones belonging to the judge were also recovered from the house, but were returned to the judge after taking them “to the lab for exploitation. The iPads too were taken to the lab for the same purpose,” he added.

While the phones were returned to Justice Ademola the iPads were not, Umar said.

Justice Ademola; his wife, Olabowale and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Joe Agi, are facing prosecution on charges, including giving and receiving gratification to influence the course of justice.
