Wizkid, Alikiba in supremacy war at Mombasa concert
Organisers of the Mombasa Rocks concert which was staged in Kenya recently had a hard time trying to quell a seeming supremacy war between Nigerian artist Wizkid and Tanzanian fan favourite Alikiba (both nominated in MTV Europe Music Awards (MTV EMA) 2016.
Reports say Alikiba and his team did not like the fact that Wizkid was billed to perform last before Chris Brown who was the main headliner of the concert stepped on stage to close the event.
Alikiba and his team thereafter decided to plot for Wizkid to perform before the Tanzanian artist and their reasoning was that Wizkid was the bigger music brand across Africa; while Alikiba was more popular in Kenya, particularly Mombasa where his Swahili music is popular.
When he got wind of the plan, the Tanzanian artist and his team were hatching, Starboy honcho Wizkid also decided not to perform at the event but after a back and forth of nearly two hours by the organisers who were trying to salvage the situation, Wizkid agreed to perform before Alikiba.
Alikiba who finally won the tussle to perform before Wizkid but without some regrets when his performance was cut short following the disconnection of his microphone said; “I was surprised. I don’t know whether the microphone was disconnected for Chris Brown to be ushered in. I hope my fans understood that it was not my fault”.
