Woman killed, properties destroyed as flood ravage Gombe communities

Gombe communities of Malala, Dukku and others in Nafada Local Government Area have been ravaged by flood, leading to massive destruction of preperty and the death of a woman.

The flood is said to be as a result of the overflow of River Gongola.

The state Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, expressed sadly over the development, while expressing condolences to family of the deceased on Saturday after he was briefed.

The governor, who also sympathised with those who lost their homes and other property, said: “The state emergency management agency and other relevant bodies are to immediately move in and provide succour to the victims to cushion the effects of this disaster.

“The Gombe State Emergency Management Agency is to immediately undertake an on-the-spot assessment of the level of the havoc wreaked in the affected areas of Malala, Kunde, Gombe Abba, Dukkuyel, Wuro-Tale, Hashidu, Lafiya, Jamari and Zaune in the Dukku Local Government Area as well as in Nafada and its environs.

“It is advisable for our people to heed flash flood warnings and avoid flood-prone areas as a preventive measure.”

Yahaya appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency to complement the efforts of the state in providing assistance to the victims.
