Woman to spend two months in jail for adultery

A 23-year old woman in Abuja, Rose James, has been sentenced to two months in prison for promiscuous life style by a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja.

However, the presiding judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, gave her N10,000 option of fine and asked her to refrain from indulging in adultery and become a decent woman.

Ruling on the case on Friday, Sadiq said, “You should always set your goals right, this will also serve as deterrent to other would be offenders.’’

Earlier, the woman had prayed the court to temper justice with mercy. She said her husband should be blamed for her adulterous lifestyle.

“My husband does not treat me right, but this new man does, he buys clothes and other things,’’ she told the court.

She further told the court she had some time ago informed her husband’s family of her intension to divorce him.

According to the prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, James Olanga, the convict’s husband, on July 17, reported the issue at the Karmo Police Station.

Olanga had told the police that his wife committed adultery and got pregnant for another man, which the woman confessed to during police investigation.

The offence, the prosecutor argued was punishable under Section 387 of the Penal Code.
