CORRUPTION: Civil servant to forfeit properties worth N124.5m to govt

A woman who secured employment with fake credentials into the Federal Civil Service for five years has been arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).

The Commission on Tuesday arraigned the suspect, Oden Alison Akpama before Hon Justice Anna Akobi of the Federal Capital Territory High Court 36, sitting in Kwali, Abuja on 9-count charge bordering on making false statement and forgery.

The counsel for ICPC, Kioba Anabraba, told the court that Akpama in 2013 allegedly made a false statement to the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, claiming to have obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Calabar in 2011 and a national youth service exemption letter from the NYSC in 2012.

Kioba added that the defendant had garnered over N2 million as salary from October 2013 to July 2018 after she was employed by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.

The defence council Joseph Myong, however, urged the court to grant his client bail in liberal terms.

Justice Akobi in her ruling granted the accused bail in the sum of N1million.

She adjourned the case until June 18 and 20, 2019 for further hearing.
