WORKERS’ DAY: NLC charges workers to be prepared

As workers mark this year’s May Day, the president of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ayuba Wabba, has drummed the need for Nigeria workers to have a better working condition and welfare.

He has therefore asked them to gear up and be ready for many more fights to achieve that, adding that workers must also be ready to pursue their need at all times as a union.

According to Wabba, though the Federal Government will not easily bow to workers’ demand, the union is battle ready to ensure the government bettered the living conditions of the nation’s workers through increment of their wages.

Comrade Wabba stated this when he spoke at a May Day Lecture in Abuja on Monday, ahead of Tuesday (today) Workers’ Day.

The NLC president said that this year’s Workers’ Day celebration should be used by workers to reflect on their struggle so far and for them to understand that whatever achievement they have made was made through serious struggle.

“This year’s May Day, workers should gear themselves up for many more fights for better working condition and welfare and always be ready to pursue their need at all times as a union,” he said.

He also spoke on the persisting killings of Nigerians by herdsmen, especially in the Middle Belt states, saying that the ugly development has become very appalling and cast doubts whether the Nigerian government actually cared for its people.
