WORLD CUP: Rohr confident of Super Eagles frontline

Following a good weekend for Super Eagles forwards at their various clubs, Nigeria coach, Gernot Rohr, has expressed certainty that his team will score goals at the forthcoming World Cup.

In China, striker Odion Ighalo found the back of the net four times in one game last weekend to spur his side Changchun Yatai to a 5-2 victory away from home.

Victor Moses made an assist and scored the winner for Chelsea as they eased past Burnley in the Premier League last week, while Musa’s brace helped CSKA Moscow win over Krasnodar.

65-year-old Rohr considers these feats a pleasant one for the Nigerian team as the 2018 FIFA World Cup draws near.

“When you see what happened this weekend, (Odion) Ighalo scored four goals, Musa scored two, Victor Moses scored one and had an assist, Kelechi (Iheanacho) played very well at Leicester, but didn’t score. Alex Iwobi played also,” the coach stated on Monday Night Football on SuperSport.

“So, I’m not pessimistic about this department. We have Mikel Obi, who can give good balls and also score. I think we will be able to score some goals at the World Cup.

Rohr however admits that he is having difficulties with the team’s defence as some are injured and some others not playing regularly.

“My problem at the moment is in the defence,” he continued.

“(Leon) Balogun is injured, William Troost-Ekong is not playing since they changed the coach (at his club). Tyronne Ebuehi is injured and Elderson Echiejile is not playing many games, so we have to check our defence also.”

The Eagles are drawn in Group D in which they would face Argentina, Croatia and Iceland in the first stage of the World Cup in Russia.
