XENOPHOBIA: Madagascar join Zambia in Bafana friendly boycott

The Xenophobic attacks in South Africa may have forced Madagascar to cancel their planned international friendly match against the Bafana Bafana.

The Island country called off their appointment on Thursday following social media amplification of killings of black foreigners and destruction of their businesses by South Africans.

Bafana’s original opponents, Zambia had pulled out of the encounter earlier in the week, citing safety concerns after the xenophobic attacks in Gauteng.

Madagascar then agreed to take the place of Zambia.

The two countries were scheduled to lock horns at Orlando Stadium on Saturday night, but according to the South African Football Association (Safa), the game will no longer be taking place.

“Safa regrets to inform the public that the match between Bafana Bafana and Madagascar scheduled for this coming Saturday has been called off after the visitors [Madagascar] decided to withdraw from the encounter‚” tweeted Safa.

Molefi Ntseki, who was recently appointed coach of the national team, will have to wait longer to have his debut game, as it is not likely Safa gets another opponent for the weekend.

Ntseki replaced Stuart Baxter, who resigned soon after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Egypt.

Meanwhile, Safa has scheduled a press conference for Thursday evening.
