You’re entitled to your opinion, but Buhari reserves right to decide on 2019, Northern leaders tell Obasanjo

Northern leaders under the umbrella of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) reacted Tuesday to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s admonition to President Muhammadu Buhari not to contest the 2019 election contained in his explosive letter, saying while it acknowledged Obasanjo’s democratic right to express the opinion, Buhari reserved the right to decide on whether or not to pursue reelection.

The ACF’s National Publicity Secretary, Muhammadu Biu, who issued the statement, insisted that it was President Buhari’s prerogative and that of his party to decide whether or not he re-contests.

The statement said, “The statement credited to former President Obasanjo that President Buhari should not run in the 2019 election, it is his democratic right to express his view like any other Nigerian on all issues, including democracy.

“However, it is President Buhari’s prerogative and that of his party to decide on whether to re-contest or not.”
