Zambia’s new interim coach Wedson Nyirenda has dropped defender Lawrence Chungu from the squad set to face Nigeria in the 2018 Fifa World Cup Group B qualifier this weekend.

Chungu received his debut call-up from the new coach, who was forced to release because of the numbers.

“We have to maintain a certain number of players that we have been given for this game,” Nyirenda said.

“Like I said the last time about the other players we dropped, Lawrence is still our player. We released him yesterday because of the numbers.”

The coach added that Chungu is still very much part of the team, together with the others that have been dropped.

“We are still building the new team and we also have to look at other players who we have not called later.”
