ZAMFARA: Deputy gov rejects Yari's anointed candidate, vows to fight on

The Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Ibrahim Wakala, has kicked against the choice of Alhaji Muktar Idris as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2019 governorship election in the state.

According to him, he is still in the race for the party’s ticket.

The state chapter of the APC zoned the governorship ticket to Zamfara Central. Both Wakala and Idris are from the zone.

The party had initially resolved to adopt indirect primaries to choose candidates for the 2019 general elections, but turned arround to announce Idris, who is the current Commissioner of Finance as the consensus candidate.

Defending the choice of Idris that is already causing crisis in the party, the State governor, Abdulaziz Yari said the candidate was endorsed by all stakeholders of the party.

Yari stated this in a media parley in Gusau on Monday, insisting that the decision was a “tradition in the state’s politics of the APC.”

“This, does not, however, mean that an individual has no right to go on his own and purchase the nomination form.

“As you know, under democratic conditions, everyone can exercise his right, but any of such persons would not have the backing of either the party or the state government, ” Yari said.

Notwithstanding, Wakala insisted he is still in the race and would not back down.
