ZIMBABWE: Ruling ZANU-PF sacks Mugabe as leader, picks ex-VP

A new political scene is beginning to emerge in Zimbabwe, as the ruling party, Zanu-PF has sacked embattled Robert Mugabe as its leader.

In his place, the party has appointed former vice-president Emmerson Mnangagwa, who was sacked by Mugabe two weeks ago, as its new leader.

With the new development,Mugabe may be on his way out as president of the country.

The sacking of Mugabe followed covert moves to have his wife, Grace, succeed him as the party leader and president of the country.

This had prompted the military to intervene to block Mugabe, from installing his wife in his place.

Thousands of Zimbabweans had flooded the street in protests on Saturday calling for the removal of Mugabe who was placed under house arrest.

Chairman of the negotiating team, Fidelis Mukonori, said on Friday that Mugabe will meet with the top officers of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces on Sunday (today).

Mukonori said this would be the second time that Mugabe and the ZDF command would meet, the first meeting having taken place on Thursday.

To be frank and sincere, not considering the noise of military taking over in Zimbabwe, or the criticisms this has brought…this man is too old to continue ruling, he should just leave the seat willingly before forceful hands are employed…
