10 sailors feared dead, 14 others rescued after 2 ships explode

A tragic scene played at Kerch Strait near Crimea, when two ships caught fire killing no less than 10 sailors, while 14 others have been rescued.

According to Russia’s transport ministry, rescue operation is still underway after the fire incident which probably broke out during a ship-to-ship fuel transhipment.

Reports say crew members were seen jumping into the sea to escape the blaze, with billows of smoke seen rising from the scene of the incident.

Both ships were under the Tanzanian flag – Candy (Venice) and Maestro – and had a combined total of 31 crew members. Of them, 16 were Turkish citizens and 15 from India, the Russian transport ministry said.
