Nigerian governors have reportedly requested a further extension of the 30-year plan for the monthly repayment of the Federal Government’s budget support facility. Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, while briefing newsmen on Tuesday, revealed that the state governors were not satisfied with the revised N162m monthly repayment. Ahmed who was speaking after the National Economic Council meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, said the ministry reported to NEC on the status of the National Budget Support Loan Facility to States. 8. Correctional Service arrests 25 out of 122 fleeing inmates

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) on Tuesday said 25 of the 122 inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Koton Karfe, Kogi State, have been arrested. The fleeing inmates escaped when a section of the centre was overrun by flood following a downpour in the town on Monday. However, the NCS said 97 of them were still missing. Read more

9. Witness at Fani-Kayode’s N4.6bn money laundering trial reveals how ministry paid N800m without contract

An investigator with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Shehu Shuaibu, has revealed how N800 million was paid from the Ministry of External Affairs into the account of a company, Joint Trust Dimensions Limited without any evidence of contract. Shuaibu made this known when he appeared as a prosecution witness on Tuesday at the resumed trial of a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, and some others facing N4.6 billion money laundering charge. 10. 34 containers of rice seized by Customs in Lagos

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has said it seized 34 containers of rice smuggled through the Tin Can Island port in Lagos, some of which have expired. The Comptroller General of Customs, Hameed Ali (RTD), disclosed this in Lagos on Tuesday. According to Ali, one of the rice containers was concealed by its importers as spare parts, while 11 containers of unregistered pharmaceutical products, two containers of used tyres, one container of used clothing and four containers of refined vegetable oil in retail packs were also seized.
