14 killed in S’Africa as taxi dives into train

At least 14 people were killed on Monday when a mini-bus taxi carrying about 20 people went over a bridge and hit a train as it plunged onto a railway line below.

KwaZulu-Natal emergency services had to cordon off the area near Ballito as people gathered so rescue workers could carry out their work.

South Africa has an exceptionally high accident rate on its roads.

At least 10,000 people die on the roads a year, mostly due to reckless driving.

No-one on the train was injured, according to ENCA news.
