President Muhammadu Buhari has left Nigeria for a three-day state visit to South Africa.

He left on Wednesday after presiding over the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

Buhari’s decision to travel to South Africa, came following the recent xenophobic attacks in the Rainbow country against Nigerians and other foreigners.

Hundreds of Nigerians had been evacuated from South Africa due to the attack which led to the deaths of several people and destruction of properties.

The Presidency had in a statement earlier, said Buhari would during the visit hold bilateral meeting with the South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, to discuss the welfare of Nigerians.

Both leaders, according to the Presidency, would also find common grounds for building harmonious relations among their respective citizens.
