Ahead of 2019 polls, Atiku meets Obasanjo

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is in a closed door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The meeting which is coming months away from the 2019 general elections is speculated to be another efforts by Atiku to woo Obasanjo’s support and blessing.

Atiku served as Vice when Obasanjo was Nigeria President between 1999 and 2007.

He was at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Complex, Abeokuta, at about 1.10pm.

Those in his entourage include the PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus; his campaign director, Otunba Gbenga Daniel; Senator Ben Murray-Bruce; and a former Cross River State governor, Liyel Imoke.

Atiku seems not to have been in the good book of Obasanjo who allegedly made every efforts to have him removed as Vice President during the later part of their administration.

But Obasanjo, who may choose to support any other candidate but Buhari, some political observers say, may drop whatever he has against Atiku this time around and pitch his support for his former vice.

Obasanjo recent commented that Nigeria needs a President who understand how the economy works, suggesting he may root for Atiku, having scored Buhari zero in economy.

Earlier on Tuesday, leaders from the Yoruba socio- cultural group, Afenifere, had earlier visited Obasanjo, a move many claimed was to make Atiku’s visit to Abeokuta a fruitful one.
