Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich bid farewell to two footballing heroes on Saturday as Xabi Alonso and Philipp Lahm played their final games for the club before retirement.

Playing against Freiburg on the last day of the season, Bayern ran out 4-1 winners, with Alonso even picking up an assist to bow out of the game in style.

Both players announced their decisions earlier in the campaign, in what will undoubtedly give manager Carlo Ancelotti a big rebuilding job to do this summer.

Lahm has spent his entire career at Bayern and been club captain since 2011, winning a host of major honours including eight Bundesliga titles and the Champions League.

Alonso, on the other hand, is one of the most decorated players in the modern era, spent his career at Real Sociedad, Liverpool, Real Madrid and finally Bayern.

They were both honoured before the match against Freiburg on Saturday at the Allianz Arena.
