Chief Tony Anenih, a notable politician from Edo State, has called it quits with politics, saying he has nothing more to prove in politics.

Anenih, former Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made known his decision to quit active politics on Saturday at the presentation of his autobiography, “My Life and Nigerian Politics.”

While he promised that he will not fail to avail the county his experience and advice as statesman, he urged Nigerians to do away with partisan politics and encourage efforts by President Muhammadu Buhari to bring to an end the present recession ravaging the country.

“I am persuaded that I have no more ambition nor any point to prove in politics. I am, therefore, glad to declare that, from today, I shall be withdrawing from active partisan politics.

“I shall, however, continue to avail the country of my experience, give suggestions and offer advice, as a statesman,” Anenih told ‎his audience.

“I therefore urge Nigerians to persevere and hope for better tomorrow. We must support and pray that God will give the President the wisdom and vision to steer the country away from recession to prosperity.”

Former President ‎Goodluck Jonathan, who was present at the event, however appealed that he should drop his decision.

According to him, Anenih’s experience in security and politics would be wasted should he go ahead in his decision to quit politics at this period.

Is it really possible to stop being a politician? Almost all Nigerians were born politicians and they will remain politicians until death takes them away. He may not participate fully in Politics again, but his political games will never end.

He was indeed a great politician. I think he did the right thing, he can now start focusing on other things without worrying himself about who becomes the next local government chairman in his area and who becomes the next senate president.
