APC to hold national convention in Buhari’s absence

Governors under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its National Working Committee (NWC) have concluded plans to go ahead with the preparations for the party’s inaugural bi-annual national convention without President Muhammadu Buhari.

Already, the governors and the NWC members of the party have resolved to send a delegation to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo with suggested dates for the convention for him to pick from.

This decision was arrived at during a monthly meeting held between the governors and the national chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun-led NWC.

Disclosing this to newsmen after the meeting, Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong said, “The issue of the National Convention was raised actually, as it was part of the decisions we took at the last meeting. Unfortunately like you realised, Mr. President is not here.

“But today, we all agreed that we have an acting President the same process should start again through the acting President.”

He further said that the President as leader of the party ordinarily should have attended but that in the present circumstances, the presence of the acting President will do.

Odigie-Oyegun had in an earlier address said, “I want to say that I am so happy that we have met twice and we are seeing the effects, very positive, very salutary effect are beginning to manifest in the party.”

Among the governors who attended the meeting were Solomon Lalong (Plateau), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Abubakar Badaru (Jigawa), Mohammed Abubakar (Bauchi).

Also at the meeting we’re Aminu Bello Masari (Katsina), Sen. Atiku Bagudu, Sani Bello (Niger) and Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara).

The governors of Lagos, Kwara, Kogi, Ogun, Osun, Nasarawa and Imo were represented by their deputies.
