#Bayelsadecides: Dickson in early lead

The Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the Bayelsa governorship election and incumbent governor of the state, Seriake Dickson, has taken an early lead with the results so far announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Dickson is squaring up with a former governor of the state, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress, APC and 20 other candidates.

The result from five local government areas so far announced at the INEC Collation Centre situated at the Yenagoa City Council Hall, indicated that the PDP candidate has won in 4 of the five local government areas while Silva of the APC won in one. Dickson won in Ekeremor, Sagbama, Yenagoa and Kolokuma/Opokuma local government areas while Sylva won only Brass LGA.

Bayelsa has just eight local government areas.

The returning officer for the election, Professor
Zanu Akpagu, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, however announced at a few minutes after 8pm that collation and announcement of results would result at 10 am on Monday. He hinged the decision on the fact that results from other local government areas are still being collated.
