It was mixed reactions for Nigeria on Thursday as Doreen Amata qualified for the women’s high jump final while Tosin Oke managed to finish last in the men’s triple jump at the 15th IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China.
Amata, whose season best is 1.94 metres and with a personal best 1.95m, could only jump 1.92m to place among the best five in the 13-athlete Qualification Heat A.

She made it in her fourth attempt, after jumps of 1.80, 1.85 and 1.89, thus qualifying for Saturday evening’s final.
The final will now have 13 jumpers after the 15 others dropped out from the two-heat event which has a total of 28 jumpers.
Meanwhile, Tosin Oke’s medal hope in the men’s triple jump was also dashed as he finished eighth in the final.
Oke, whose season best is 16.98 and personal best 17.23, leapt 16.81 after three attempts.
