Benue Assembly wants Miyetti Allah leaders arrested for treason

Benue State House of Assembly on Thursday asked the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to urgently arrest the leaders of cattle breeders under the aegis of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore in the state for treason and inciting public unrest in the state.

The call was sequel to the statement allegedly made by the national president of the association, Abdullahi Bello and secretary, Mr. Saleh Alhassan, on Tuesday, when they addressed a press conference in Abuja.

They were alleged to have kicked against the Anti-Open Grazing Law recently enacted in the state and vowed to mobilise their members nationwide to resist the implementation of the law.

The leadership of the herdsmen were also said to have attributed the herdsmen / farmers crisis in the state to the struggle for Natural resources, and claimed that they are the real inhabitants of the Benue Valley.

But the house in its ruling on the motion seeking for the arrest of the heads of the herdsmen in the state and moved by the majority leader, Benjamin Adamu, said effecting such arrests was necessary.

Speaker Terkimbi Ikyange argued that the arrest will forestall breakdown of law and order which may likely be orchestrated by Miyetti Alla outburst.

The majority leader had while moving the motion said that the comments of the leaders of Miyetti Alla not only amounted to “treasonable felony” but also prove that “attacks on Benue communities is not as a
result of quest for grazing but an agitation to takeover the state.”
