The Accounts department of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly went up in flames, in the early hours of Tuesday morning, stalling the planned resumption of the House.

The fire, which has left the lawmakers with a base of operation, it was gathered, started in the Accounts department and spread to the media section of the Assembly complex, before spreading to other parts.

The fire according to a source, destroyed some property including sensitive documents of the House.

As at the time of this report, policemen with Amoured Personnel Carrier, APC were seen stationed at the gate of the Assembly complex as journalists and other workers were not allowed into the complex.

It was further learned that the anti-bomb squad of the state police command were still within the Assembly complex trying to determine whether the fire had been set off by an explosive device.

Recall that the House had begun probe into all financial dealings of the present administration headed by Chief Martin Elelchi, which many had opined might lead to the eventual impeachment of the governor in days ahead.
