APC crises may deepen as Buhari supporters vow to sue Oyegun after EFCC rejected petition against party chairman
  1. 9Members of Buhari/APC Anti-Corruption Support Group on Friday continued their protest against the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun at the Abuja office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The group had earlier on Thursday besieged the party headquarters in Abuja, where they declared their support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term in office, but insisted that Oyegun must exit as the party’s national chairman.

At the resumption of their protest at the EFCC office on Friday, the group went with a petition seeking the anti-graft agency to look into the financial records of the APC which they alleged is shrouded in “secrecy since the inception of Chief John Odigie Oyegun leadership of the party.”

Before taking their protest to EFCC, the group had earlier rallied at the Julius Berger area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in support of the anti-corruption fight of the current administration.

However, the EFCC officials who attended to the group refused to receive the petition citing non-attachment of necessary documentary evidence and facts to the petition.

After several minutes of heated argument with the EFCC officials who stood their grounds, the group leaders angrily left and threatened to resort to legal actions against the APC national chairman and the EFCC.

Meanwhile, the group had in their petition which was rejected by the EFCC asked among other things that the EFCC compel Oyegun to get the party’s account audited and that the EFCC should probe the finances of the APC in the last four years which they claimed has been a “one man show”.

The group which was led by one Ishola Adeshina, who claims to be an APC stalwart and supported by the Southwest PRO of the party, displayed several banners and placards with various messages like: “EFCC must probe Oyegun now!” “Audit APC’s account now,” “Oyegun is killing the anti-corruption policy of Buhari,” “We stand with Buhari,” among others.

Addressing newsmen, Ishola said, “I’m thoroughly disappointed by the attitude displayed by the EFCC today. At least they should have collected the petition and if it lacks merit after investigation, they can drop it. The EFCC is mandated to investigate all corruption allegations, but it has woefully failed in that respect today. We are heading to court.”
