CABINET DISSOLUTION: It’s a question of loyalty –Gov Wike

Those left in APC are afraid of EFCC —Wike

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has debunked the insinuations that a crack in his government may have warranted the dissolution of his State Executive Council (SEC) last week.

What may be described as political drama which played out in the Governor Wike-led government of Rivers State last week left many political analysts assuming that all may not be well with the state executive arm of government.

Within 48 hours, the state government officials were either sacked or voluntarily resigned from their duties.

It started with the sacking of the Commissioner for Works, Bathuel Harrison, who was relieved of his position with immediate effect, then the resignation of the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr. Austin Tam-George, a day later before finally culminating in the sacking of the entire cabinet members all within 48 hours.

But the governor in response to the events, said the dissolution was carried out in consultation with the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, adding that the exercise will help the government to know those who are loyal and not loyal to it because government must work with loyal party members especially when going into another dispensation.

Governor Wike gave the explanations when he spoke during the Election Thanksgiving Service in honour of the Majority Whip of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Evans Bipi, at Saint Martin’s Anglican Church, Ogu on Sunday.

“This is when you know those who are loyal and those who are not loyal. There is no crack in government. We are working together. The dissolution was done in consultation with the leadership of the PDP in the state.

“You must work with those who are loyal. Those who are not loyal will be shown the way out. Those who are loyal will come back. When you are going into another dispensation, you have to put things in order,” he said.

According to him, the dissolution came at the right time. He further said that Rivers State was not alone in taking such action as most states had already dissolved their respective executive councils.

He added, “In government, there are those hungry to come in and those hungry to go. If you are a political appointee, you must expect any eventuality.”

All is definitely well with River State government, if not the governor wouldn’t have decided to sack all his cabinet members in less than 48 hours. Watch how the state will now change for good.

  4. Mr Septin911 – Lagos State, Nigeria – I'm not as complicated as you thing, equally not as easy as you've imagined. Huh? Yeah, Don't get it twisted.

I’m sure those people he sacked were making Wike’s government miserable. He needed to sack them all, if need be, he should sack more people until he gets people who are ready to serve wholeheartedly
