Manchester City beat rivals Liverpool to the 2018/19 Premier League title after defeating Brighton, as the season comes to end on Sunday.

Although Liverpool, who battled for the title until the final day, saw off Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 at Anfield but finished one point behind City.

The Pep Guardiola side needed a win to retain the title they won last year, and they came from a goal down to win 4-1 at Brighton.

A 27th-minute opener by Glenn Murray put Brighton ahead but not for long as Sergio Aguero pegged back one minute later.

Three more goals by Aymeric Laporte, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan sealed the big win for the champions.

Guardiola becomes only the third manager after Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho to win successive English top flight titles.

And City are the first to retain the Premier League title since Manchester United managed it in 2009.

Also on the final day, Manchester United fell 2-0 to already-relgated Cardiff City at Old Trafford.

Chelsea were held to a goalless draw at the King Power Stadium by Leicester City, with Kelechi Iheanacho benched and Wilfred Ndidi subbed off.

The point warned was enough to help the Blues finish third, while Tottenham played 2-2 with Everton to confirm their place in 4th.

Arsenal defeated Burnley 3-1; Watford fell 1-4 to West Ham; Southampton and Huddersfield played 1-1; Crystal Palace beat Bournemouth 5-3, while Newcastle thrashed Fulham 4-0.
