Chelsea hold off Watford to win in 7-goal thriller

English Premier League champions Chelsea edged 10-man Watford 4-3 in a thrilling league clash at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.

The hosts, who havd just won their 6th Premier League title with a win at West Brom last Friday, got ahead in the 22nd minute by a strike from John Terry.

The 36-year old, who reportedly will leave the club at the end of the season, made a mistake that allowed Etienne Capoue to equalize in less than two minutes, before Cesar Azpilicueta drilled in from 25 yards to restore the lead.

Michy Batshuayi tapped in early in the second half to give the Blues side a two-goal lead, only for Watford wing-back Daryl Janmaat to narrow the gap almost instantly with a superb solo goal.

Watford’s Stefano Okaka then converted from close range to level again. But substitute Cesc Fabregas netted in a late winner before Watford defender Sebastian Prodl was shown a late red card.

“It was a crazy minute. I got on the scoresheet and a minute later made a mistake and let him [Etienne Capoue] in. Mixed emotions,” John Terry stated after the match.

“I was delighted to start first and foremost, and to score and win. It’s important to keep this momentum going for the FA Cup final.”

Chelsea will be presented with the Premier League trophy when they host Sunderland in Sunday’s final game of the season.

Chelsea will play Arsenal on May 27 in FA Cup final.
