Codeine: Mop up exercise to cost Nigeria fortune, says NAFDAC
The management of the National Agency for Foods and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) yesterday said that the nationwide mop up of codeine syrup would cost the country a fortune.
Special Assistant to NAFDAC Director-General, William Effiok, in a chat with New Telegraph in Lagos, where he represented the director- general of the agency, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, explained that the Federal Ministry of Health’s announcement banning codeine last week, had made NAFDAC to swung into action, recalling the product from the Nigerian market.
According to him, the exercise was on-going at the moment and was likely to take months to achieve the cleanup, because of the volume of codeine syrup in circulation.
