Court finds ex-Gov Dariye guilty of misappropriating N1.16bn (Updated)
A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Gudu, has found Senator Joshua Dariye, ex-Plateau governor guilty of misappropriating N1.16bn Ecological Fund.
The court presided over by Justice Adebunkola Banjoko sentenced him to 14 years imprisonment.
Dariye’s sentence came after the trial judge found the former governor guilty of 15 out the 23 counts preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The development is coming after the judge had also in a recent judgment sentenced former governor of Taraba State, Jolly Nyame, to 14 years in jail on similar charges.
Ruling on Dariye’s matter on Tuesday, she sentenced Dariye to two years imprisonment on each of the five counts bordering on criminal misappropriation and 14 years’ jail term on each of the 11 counts of criminal breach of trust.
