Court orders immediate reinstatement of sacked FUOYE lecturer

The National Industrial Court sitting in Abuja on Friday ordered the reinstatement of a sacked Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) lecturer, Prof. Adeyemi Oluwagbemiga.

Prof. Oluwagbemiga was sacked by the management of FUOYE on October 31, 2018 over his alleged refusal to submit a research report to the institution for which they collected N1,685,000.

In the judgement, copy of which was made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Friday, the court ordered the immediate reinstatement of the Department of Demography and Social Statistics’ lecturer back to the service of the university and all payments due for him fully settled.

Justice O. O. Oyewumi, who delivered judgement on the matter, said the termination of the lecturer’s appointment vide a letter dated October 31, 2018 was null and void.

The judge said: “That the termination letter is hereby set aside and this shows that the claimant is still in the employ of the university.

“That the claimant is entitled to be reinstated back to his erstwhile position without any loss of seniority, rank and entitlements whatsoever.

“That the defendant is restrained from further interfering with the claimant’s rights, privileges and performance of his duties as an associate Professor in the defendant (FUOYE).”
