COVID-19: Kano extends stay at home order by 2 weeks, as Katsina directs workers to return to work

The government of Kano State has directed its civil servants to remain at home for another two weeks over COVID-19 fears.

The state government gave the other as part of efforts to support the ongoing battle to contain coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria.

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje gave the directive when he received a report of COVID-19 Fundraising Committee at state government house on Monday.

“The extension of the stay-at- home directive became imperatives following the increasing number of COVID- 19 cases being recorded on daily basis in the country,” he said.

Kano is yet to record any case of COVID-19 and Ganduje said to ensure the status remain, “the measures of border closure and partial lockdown of social activities would remain to keep the state safe.”

In its report presented to the governor, the fundraising committee on COVID-19 identified 300,000 households for distribution of food items and cash as palliative measures against the coronavirus in the state.

The chairman of the committee, Professor Mohammad Yahuza Bello, presenting the report said the committee had mapped out the 300,000 households across the 484 political wards.

He also hinted that the committee had received N354, 695, 780.50k cash donation.

Meanwhile, in Kastina, a neighbouring state, the state government has asked civil servants to report back to work with immediate effect.

“The Civil servants should report to work from 10:00am to 2:00pm from Monday April 6 to Friday April 10, 2020, the State Head of service, Alhaji Idris Tune, said in a statement.

According to him, the state civil servants would provide skeletal services for five days and when the situation improved they would resume full scale services in the state.

However, he said “all schools including universities will remain closed until further notice.”
