This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Kabiru Mustapha, while addressing newsmen in the company of members of the state COVID-19 response team.

According to him, 285 positive cases have been recorded by the state as at May 21.

He said: “As it is, the COVID 19 Committee hold their meetings through the zones and there is no point to connect everybody at the moment. We really are at very serious position, there are alot of cases now to handle.

”When we started, it was easy to meet and discuss but now its just like wild fire. So it’s fire on the mountain’.

”I am just coming from the IDP Centre. If you go there you see people being trained on how to manage the facilities. We are doing training for the handlers, ward attendence and other personnel.”

The Permanent Secretary also disclosed that 300 samples are yet to be returned, which he said is affecting the committee’s calculations and challenges as new figures keep streaming in with more samples being sent.

Speaking further on the 13 recorded deaths so far, he said only five were admitted while the remaining 8 were based on the symptomatic observations carried out after they died and their samples collected and presented to the hospital.

He said: ”We have taken over 1800 samples so far. The isolation centre will be hopefuly commissioned today, and once that is done, we will look at structures of things to be there before we start using it.

”I would not say the number of Isolation centers we have now is enough, we need more. As at today having completed the ID camp at jibia by pass, we are now moving to Tasha Bala to make another 150 facility centre for any eventuality.

”It’s not that we don’t have enough isolation centres, but let me be frank to you we have very large accomudation, people are complaining that they don’t want to stay there even with all the needed facilities there in.”
