COVID-19: NDDC places ban on visitors to its offices in 9 states

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) on Tuesday suspended visits to its offices in the nine Niger Delta states as part of measures to curtail the spread of the dreaded coronavirus also known as COVID-19.

This was revealed in a statement by Prof. Kemebradikumo Pondei, the Acting Managing Director, NDDC, who revealed that the affected states are; Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo and Rivers.

According to Pondei, the decision to ban visitors for the time being was in line with the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) ‘level three’ recommendations to curb the spread of coronavirus.

He said; “The measure is part of the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommendations on social distancing as a means of preventing transmission of Covid-19 pandemic among the workforce.

“To this end, NDDC has suspended visiting days in the commission’s workplaces as an interim measure until prevention measures to be enforced is advised

“The level three is the highest level of prevention measure instituted in the country against any infectious disease of public health importance.

“All relevant directorates in NDDC will come up with rosters and work out modalities for minimising the number of staff in our offices at every given time,” Pondei added.

The directive comes after the number of coronavirus cases in Nigeria rose to 42, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said on Tuesday.

Giving an update on the number of affected persons in the country, the NCDC on it’s twitter handle said two more persons had tested positive to the virus, bringing the number to 42.
